During Elementary School, children have an amazing capacity for growing in faith as they explore what it means to follow Jesus Christ. At James Island Presbyterian, Children’s and Youth Ministry have three components: Presbyterian Youth Connection, Sunday School and Youth Music. Working together, these ministries enable our children and youth to participate in worship, Bible study, service, and fellowship with one another and the entire congregation.
During the Wednesday Night Live semesters, children in grades 1-5 are invited to join “Elementary PYC” following WNL dinners. Each week, children will gather from 6:30-7:30 to learn lessons centered around a common theme for the semester and enjoy games and craft.
Our Sunday School classes are divided into 1st and 2nd Grades, 3rd and 4th Grades, and 5th and 6th Grades. Each class meets upstairs in the Christian Education Building at 10:00 a.m. and is led by a team of dedicated volunteer teachers. Children begin to use their Bibles and are taught the stories of the faith and what those stories mean for our lives as disciples today. In addition to spending time learning and growing in faith, our children grow in their relationship with God and one another. The friendships they build can last a lifetime as they all grow in faith together.
Special Youth and Intergenerational Events
Throughout the year, we host several events just for children and for the entire family. Our Advent Series, Summer Wednesday Night Live Series, and Palm Sunday Festival are some of the children’s favorites and are a great opportunity for all of the congregation to gather and share time in fellowship and service. Check out our calendar for what’s coming next in Children’s Ministry at JIPC or contact Duncan Meadows, our Director of Children’s and Youth Ministries.
