Dear Church family,
How quickly our world is changing! It reminds me of the accuracy of the age-old adage “the only thing certain is change.” In our attempt to continue the process of formulating a “policy of returning to worship,” we met as a Presbytery via Zoom on Wednesday of this past week. During our time together we heard from pastors and clerks of sessions about their particular approaches to returning to worship amid the pandemic. I was encouraged with each of the creative and conscientious approaches meant to guide safe returns to worship. Although the logistics of worship will change our spirit of oneness and worship will not.
Some have asked how things might look when we return to our physical gathering at James Island Presbyterian. I wanted you to know that our Administrative Council has authorized a task group to convene and begin the formal process of crafting our policy of return within our particular worshiping context. It is a rather monumental undertaking with the safety and well-being of our community of faith as our guide and fundamental concern. Although we can’t guarantee 100% safety, we will with much prayer and due diligence do our best to ensure not only your personal safety, but a creativity and power we have all come to appreciate and expect in our worship.
The old adage is true perhaps with one caveat. Our love, prayers and concern for YOU—and the well-being of our community of faith, will not change!
Please continue in prayer with your staff family and me as we work to craft this policy toward our continued well-being and return to worship in the sanctuary.
Stay safe! Be smart. Remain open to the gracious continuing presence of the Holy Spirit within you and among us.
Grace and Peace,
